Hi,

I have submitted this PR one and half month ago, which is about
adding a *default-off* option and will helps CJK UTF-8 users a
lot. I have mailed maintainer last month, but no response.
That's why I try to make a noise on the list.

This PR does not cause any harm and I hope the maintainer can
review this PR soon. I'm also very willing to maintain this port
if the maintainer is "disappear".
