I got a response back from the Snort team regarding the tarball change:

The snort 2.4.4 tarball was repackaged as part of the binary release ...
there where changes made to the rpm spec file in 2.4.4 for the rpm builds.
Therefore, the tarball was rebuilt and re-distributed (the spec file is
contained within the tarball).

I will be submitting a PR to update the port with the new distinfo file
as soon as I can.
