Is this also true for 6.0? If yes, does Lukas know about it?

AFAIR 4.x enables the write cache (bad if there's a power failure in the
soft-updates case, since without native command queueing the drivers may
reorder writes witout the possibility to notify soft-updates about it),
while 5+ disables it. Enable it in loader.conf and your performance should
change.

I think this is fixed in 6.0.
