did you read pkg-message ?

To have smartd start at boot
         cp ${PREFIX}/etc/rc.d/smartd.sh.sample 
${PREFIX}/etc/rc.d/smartd.sh
         chmod 555 ${PREFIX}/etc/rc.d/smartd.sh
