Looks like a python problem, which I'm totally clueless about;
fwiw, compiles fine here (on STABLE) with:
pkg_info | grep -i py
py23-expat-2.3.3_2  Python interface to the Expat XML parser
py23-gtk-2.2.0_2    A set of Python bindings for GTK
py23-numeric-23.1   The Numeric Extension to Python
py23-tkinter-2.3.4_1 Python bindings to the Tk widget set
