Ah.  You need XFree86 4.3.0 for gswitchit to work.  Well, you could get by
with 4.x, but the recent gswitchit applet for for the GNOME 2 desktop was
tested with 4.3.0.  If you're trying to build the old gswitchit_applet
port, I never did test that one, myself.  It's since been removed since
the GNOME 1 desktop is being phased out.
