firebird and xemacs locking up/crashing "in pairs"???

Apparently not.  I use metacity under the GNOME desktop.  I would focus
more on WM interaction with gtk+-2.  But if emacs is still locking up, I
would be more focused on the WM itself (note, I don't use emacs, so I
don't know if it locks up under GNOME).
