pkgconfig:Shared object "libintl.so.1" not found

Trying to solve the ImageMagick problem I wrote about a few days ago by 
installing its dependencies separately - I'm running into the same 
message with pkgconfig

===>  Building for pkgconfig-0.15.0
/usr/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: Shared object "libintl.so.1" not found
*** Error code 1

What I actually have is /usr/local/lib/libintl.so.4 - could somebody 
give me a hint what to do about this?
