Every version of this since 1.10.1 renders the duplicity ssh backend useless.
The ssh session hangs forever and eventually times out without transmitting
anything.

The bug is quite old now:

The attached patch "fixes" this. Actually I do not think it is a proper patch
but upstream seems to ignore the problem so meanwhile it would be better to
have a working software. The workaround is from this comment:
