I understand both the need and the frustration. There are however quite a
number of other ports (including Python ones) that have been required to patch
out, or be modified to ignore the use of bundled libraries, and use system
provided libraries instead.

It should be possible to have this port compile with the system/port version,
given that the databases/sqlcipher port installs library and headers (and .pc
file, likely not relevant here)
