Check for yourself; remove the "INSTALL_TARGET=install-strip" line from your
makefile, reinstall sox, then run "file /usr/local/bin/sox".  I bet it'll print
something like this, showing that the installed file is still stripped:

/usr/local/bin/sox: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (FreeBSD),
dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for FreeBSD 10.1, stripped
