patch to make graphics/grads fetchable again

This patch should make graphics/grads fetchable again and unbreak the port.

Version 1.9b4 is very old (from 2005). The newest stable version 2.0.2 is from
November 2011, an unstable release 2.1a3 from March 2015. It would be nice to
have this port upgraded to a more recent version.
