 I found your PR after I filed my own:

 My version includes full staging support and fixes to chmod/chown process.
 
 Can we narrow this port down to one maintainer and one PR? I think I can 
 give up maintainer rights to you. After that we can try pinging lists to 
 find any committer to push the port in.
