Thanks for your help.
Samba41 successfully rebuilt packages during standalone attempts. During a
build cycle involving portmaster and pkg to build 501 ports, an interaction
between dns/py-dnspython and net/samba41 ocurred as described earlier.
Deinstalling py-dnspython and clearing $STAGEDIR as a prerequisite to samba41
enabled the suite of packages to be built for each of the target platforms. Our
build procedures evolved over 11 years and will be reviewed.
