Thank you for your offer to maintain this unmaintained port.
I can cut through a lot of FAQ's here, and help you on your road to maintaining this port.
In your pr, you should include the patch for everything:
what is missing: 
* you should change maintainer
* you need to update distfile

As this is, I doubt it will 'fetch', but give you size/checksum mismatches.

Additionally (and I have not check this yet)
update portlint (ports-mgmt/portlint), and run:
portlint -abc

You can find more information in porters-handbook on FreeBSD.org, and, feel free to ask questions on freebsd-ports maiiling 
list.
