yes, good idea.
submit it as a patch, (mkdir -p /tmp/old/files ; rsync -av * /tmp/old/; touch /tmp/old/files/freerrpd.sh.in
put you GENERIC PATCH rc script in ./files/freerrpd.sh.in
Doesn't need a portsbump.
do a diff -Bbru > patch.txt
and, look at this FAQ

and other scripts from ports to see the %%VARIABLE%% lines needed.
