I've updated the master site to 
http://s3.amazonaws.com/gemcutter_production/gems/
since (without modification)
http://gemcutter.org/downloads/ANYRUBYGEM-VERSION.gem
is using redirection to the s3 amazon service which is not working with the ports system!?
