Yes, but ptmalloc3 is better to the point that some linux packages are starting to override the glibc malloc and include ptmalloc3 or alternative implementations as part of their sources. 

That said, a new ptmalloc2 port should take advantage of ${PORTNAME} and start from a shared library version .1 .
