VNC

I have tried vnc download and treid the pkg_add -r gnome-vnc and still no luck.  Have gnome as my settings on the system and when I reboot all the vnc settings are gone no matter how it is loaded.  Went out on the web tried what was out there on xstartup and followed instructions and still after reboot no windows manager when you vnc into the machine.  Any help here would be nice.  I am running freebsd 7.0.
