I had almost the same error using "clean" Makefile like that

CONFIGURE_ARGS= --enable-library --prefix=${LOCALBASE}

But when I run "./configure" from $WRKSRC, it does work well, digging in  
this script gives nothing, so I decide to do it like that (at least it  
works well on three different machines with 6.3 and 7.0).
I changed 'pre-configure' target to 'do-configure', updated version  
included
