My name is Rafaël Carré but I'm also known as funman at videolan.org ;)

I'm glad you want to maintain vlc, I'll answer on the PR that I
acknowledge that.

2 things I want to add:

I atm work (for €) for VLC consultancy, and I'll finish by the end of
september or so, so if you meet a problem by then, I could give you a
hand..

The VideoLAN Team told me they would tag 0.9.0 version of vlc on Sunday,
and release tarballs (and maybe binaries) would follow in the next week,
so you might want to try building a 0.9.0 port (multimedia/vlc-devel) with
latest git checkout, and eventually get needed patches in the tarball
instead of in the FreeBSD port. Just drop by on #videolan at freenode and
they will likely help you.

Good luck !
