this problem is still reproducible on my system (4.9-RELEASE-p8
and fxtv-1.03_2). Fxtv crashes every time with

Whoah!  Failed to load font '-adobe-utopia-regular-r-normal--20-0-100-100-p-0-iso8859-1' which X 'said' it knew about.
This shouldn't happen (but does in XFree86 3.9.16).
Basically, choose another font or take the default font.

as long as Fxtv*menuBox*font, Fxtv*toolBox*font, and
Fxtv*AnnotFont are not set to ISO8859-15 fonts. Are you sure that
you don't have them set in your .Xdefualts/.Xresources?
