screenshot of crash.xls with edited cell

Hmn ... I still can't reproduce the crash. I edited crash.xls in scalc and
edited cell A1. Screenshot attached.

I'm guessing this has to be system specific in some way. I'm testing on
8.4-STABLE i386.

Since you aren't getting a core file, soffice is probably catching the SIGSEGV
and going into recovery mode. You might try this to get a stack trace:

  Start scalc

Use ps to find the pid of soffice.bin

  gdb -p pid-from-last-step
/usr/local/openoffice-4.1.1/openoffice4/program/soffice.bin

Type "cont" at the gdb prompt

  Attempt Format Cells in scalc

gdb should detect the SIGSEGV and prompt for input

Type "bt" to get a stack trace
