If you have a UP system with a usable TSC (or equivalent) then
using rdtsc() (or equivalent) is a much cheaper way to measure
short durations with high resolution.
Please excuse any delays as the result of my ISP's inability to implement
an MTA that is either RFC2821-compliant or matches their claimed behaviour.
