sound too quiet

I have a Shuttle SN41G2 with nForce2. Volume control does effectively
change the volume, but the max volume is way too quiet. It's just
barely audible through speakers, and not quite loud enough through
earphones. In the archive, most problems seem to be too loud instead
of too quiet.... I'm hoping there's some hack I can install to make
it work for me even if it would make things too loud for others.

Info follows. Thanks.

Steve
