Recommended laptops for FreeBSD 6.x ...

I've had generally goo experiences with 7.0 on a Gateway MT3705, except 
the ATI Radeon XPRESS 200M doesn't seem to work.  (found a "port" for 
fglrx, but haven't tried it yet...)

Earlier versions won't detect the NIC, it's a Marvell Yukon.
