Compaq R3120Us failing boot on all FreeBsd version

Search for "r3000z" - the most common subject header
is:
boot fails on compaq presario r3000z

The problem is consistent mainly on Compaq and HP
laptops running AMD64 and Athlon XP-M and the nForce
(4?) chipset.

There is a patch but currently it has to be manually
implemented through great pain and hair-pulling.
