FreeBSD 5.3-STABLE crashes/reboots on "acpiconf -s 3"

Hello,

Dell Latitude D600
FreeBSD 5.3-STABLE

When I run "acpiconf -s 3" the computer looks like it is going in to 
suspend (switches from X to text console, battery light begins to blink) 
and then ... I go to BIOS and the computer proceeds to boot.

I applied the patch outlined at http://lnk.to/dell even though the page 
reports this to be obviated in 5.3-RELEASE ... no luck.

Does anyone know what is going on with this?  I'd sure appreciate 
advice!  Thanks!
