Don't know if it will help but, I had to do the following for my 
Inspiron 5100 with it's Synaptics Touchpad:

  Add to /boot/device.hints
    hint.psm.0.flags="0x1000"
   Add to /etc/rc.conf
     moused_enable="YES"
     moused_port="/dev/psm0"
     moused_type="auto"
