Hi folks,

This is a little different than the usual job posting since what Apple is looking for here are student interns, namely those actively enrolled in a higher-education program of some sort who want to work during holidays and, optionally, during the school year on a part-time basis.

If interested, please email studentjobs at apple.com (University Recruiting) - do not email me directly! You can go directly to UR in this case and there's no need to keep me in the loop. Without further preamble, I'll let them speak in their own words - thanks!

Experience Apple. There’s the typical job. Punch in, make widgets, punch out, repeat. Then there’s a career at Apple. Where you’re encouraged to defy routine. To explore the far reaches of the possible. To travel unchartered paths. And to be a part of something far bigger than yourself. Because around here, changing the world just comes with the job description. Our software engineers are the brains behind some of the industry’s biggest breakthroughs. Mac OS X, QuickTime, and iChat — not to mention the system-level software for iPhone and Apple TV — all started here. This team is on the front line of Apple’s constant charge toward innovation.
The Kernel Engineering team within Apple's Core OS organization is looking for an exceptional Intern to work on state-of-the art operating system technology for iOS and OSX. As a core technology for iOS and OSX, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the design and implementation of Apple's embedded and desktop operating systems products. Our environment fosters product innovation, rapid product iteration, and a liberating amount of autonomy. This is a position for someone with familiarity in areas of the kernel such as Virtual memory, Scheduler, Threading, Security, IPC, and POSIX APIs.

Preferred Experience:
* a genuine passion for operating system technology
* knowledge of kernel internals
* demonstrated creative and critical thinking capabilities and troubleshooting skills
* familiarity with modern processor architecture (e.g. memory hierarchy, multicore, multithreading, etc)
