This is more on the line of "Open Source Jobs."
Official description below and at <http://www.xythos.com/home/xythos/
about/jobs_senior_tech_support_engineer.html>. You can contact me at
dking at xythos.com if you're curious about the company, or our actual
recruiter at recruit at xythos.com.
Xythos sells a document management system (a J2EE system), and is
looking for a Senior Technical Support Engineer (we've also called it
a "Level 3 Support Engineer"). Our current support team (5 people) is
very talented but we don't have any that are incredibly familiar with
Unix systems, so those problems end up going to development and IT.
So we're looking for an engineer that is very familiar with Unix
systems (especially Linux and/or Solaris, but most Unix skills are
portable) to be a sort of "man/woman on the mountain" to handle the
more complicated issues and to teach the other engineers along the
way. A good candidate doesn't cry when hearing the words "file
system", "load balancer", "/etc/fstab", "webdav", "database", or
"super Solaris admin thingie whatchamajigger" (yes, pronounced that
way), and has some experience with a mainstream RDBMS.
The position is in San Francisco, CA, USA, but we've interviewed one
or two telecommuter candidates. I'm not the hiring manager (or
involved in the hiring process at all except doing about 1/4 of the
interviews), but I'm happy to tell you about the company and the
product if you're curious.
