The FreeBSD 10-RC4 changes tell:
'Changes between -RC3 and -RC4 include:

     o Tighten default restrictions for ntpd(8) server.
     o Fix kernel crash discovered with recent Java port update.'

So there is the fix. I don't know how this applies to other FreeBSD  
versions.
