A freshly installed openJava6 however partly displays ugly looking fonts (netbeans, IDEA shows the same sympthoms). I tried to dig some information on java font propertiesconfiguration: http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/intl/fontconfig.html From that I thought that copying fontconfig.bfc from 1.6.0_03-p4 will do the job. It is not. I tried also to copy fontconfig.properties.src as fontconfig.properties (putting aside *.bfc). It did not helped either. Can someone shed light on how to reconstruct the "original" lookout of fonts? It would be nice to have them as default config, too. Zsolt ------------------ Zsolt K?ti From bcr at FreeBSD.org Thu Oct 1 20:35:28 2009 From: bcr at FreeBSD.org (Benedict Reuschling) Date: Thu Oct 1 20:36:01 2009 Subject: Running the Java SAPGUI on FreeBSD Message-ID: <4AC51010.1070906@FreeBSD.org> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello Java-Team! With the following tutorial at [1] and the troubleshooting section in [2], I've successfully managed to run the Java SAPGUI under recent FreeBSD i386/amd64 (see screenshot at [3]). I had a little bit of trouble at first, since the JDK/JRE from the FreeBSD Foundation did not even manage to bring up the graphical installer. The recent java/linux-sun-jre16 did not work either (port is outdated and unfetchable, newer jre-update does not compile), so I asked miwi@ for help. He gave me the required jre-6u3-linux-i586.bin for testing purposes and with that version SAPGUI is running now. Since this is only a temporary solution, I would like to ask you for help in getting a recent version of the JRE from the FreeBSD Foundation (with proper licensing) working with the SAPGUI. I think this would be a nice addition to FreeBSD, giving it a more professional touch when it is capable of running ERP software. I'm aware that this is a platform/solution that is not officially supported by SAP (it works nonetheless). :) There is also a howto in the FreeBSD Forum [4], but it is using the java/linux-sun-jre15 port, which is nearing its end of life (EOL) at the end of October. My questions is whether anyone of you is already working on this and how we should proceed? I'm willing to do tests and give feedback from a live SAP system. If we get a working version with the JRE, I can also add an article or handbook section to the FreeBSD handbook (pending the approval of doc@, of course). I appreciate your help. Thanks in advance. After a whole day work with NB6.7 there was no crash here. Once it got so slow, that it needed a restart. But repeating TestNG test runs a lot had no such effect. No wonder that openJDK is less polished (and is somewhat behind in performance wise) than our good old Sun JDKs. Unfortunately my need of using openJDK6 stems from the bug which exists in Sun JDKs before update10 (on Windows as well): in DatatypeCoverter from JAXB an internal member of DatatypeCoverterInterface of this class is not initialized and method calls result in NPE. I could not find a workaround (usage of NB is obligatory). From guru at unixarea.de Tue Oct 13 11:14:13 2009 From: guru at unixarea.de (Matthias Apitz) Date: Tue Oct 13 11:14:20 2009 Subject: error while printing from Java to CUPS Message-ID: <20091013105610.GA3106@current.Sisis.de> Hello, Some Java applications, like openproj for example, are unable to print to the CUPS printing system; this seems to be a know problem in Java and if you do a search in Don Google you will information and workarounds, like this, for example: http://www.magicdraw.com/main.php?ts=faq&cmd_show=1&menu=faq Diagram printing is not working on Linux OS The problem is related with the Linux cups package update. This problem is Sun Java bug and description of this problem is published in the Java Bug Database: http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6633656. To solve diagram printing problem we would suggest to use 1.6.0_10 JVM or later, because this issue is solved in these java versions. If you can not use the 1.6.0_10 JVM or later, other possible solution would be the following: 1.Open the file /etc/cups/printers.conf 2.Before each line with the text , add the following line: Options orientation-requested 3 The referenced http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6633656 explain all the details of the bug... But: I've tried to insert the proposed change in /usr/local/etc/cups/printers.conf but it does not help. This is with cups-base-1.3.9_3 in a 8-CURRENT. As well it says that there is a fix in Java in 1.6.0_10 or later... I have dk-1.6.0.3p4_10 and it seems no to be fixed :-( Any ideas? matthias -- Matthias Apitz t +49-89-61308 351 - f +49-89-61308 399 - m +49-170-4527211 e - w http://www.unixarea.de/ Vote NO to EU The Lisbon Treaty: http://www.no-means-no.eu From v.balada at coolbleiben.net Tue Oct 13 11:46:00 2009 From: v.balada at coolbleiben.net (Victor Balada Diaz) Date: Tue Oct 13 11:46:06 2009 Subject: Java support for jstack In-Reply-To: References: <1254400922.24325.9.camel@localhost.localdomain> Message-ID: <1255434349.18720.3.camel@localhost.localdomain> Hello Ronald, I tried openjdk jstack against diablo-jdk and it doesn't work, so i just tried using tomcat with openjdk and when running jstack i get the following error: yac# /usr/local/openjdk6/bin/jstack -F -l 89291 Attaching to process ID 89291, please wait... I am using the javax.smartcardio class to access a SmartCard Reader. I have been trying both openjdk6 and jdk16 ports. The problem: java does not detect the installed pcsclite library in /usr/local/lib per default like it does on Linux and MacOSX Testprogramm: import javax.smartcardio.*; import java.io.*; import java.util.*; public class Test { public static void main(String[] args) { String libpath = System.getProperty("sun.security.smartcardio.library"); System.out.println("Smartcardlibrary: " + libpath); System.out.println("Smartcardio available: " + TerminalFactory.getDefaultType() + " "); } } If i set the Property sun.security.smartcardio.library to /usr/local/lib/libpcscplite.so the Testprogram works as expected. The Soucecode in Question seems to be the file PlatformPCSC.java http://www.java2s.com/Open-Source/Java-Document/6.0-JDK-Platform/solaris/sun/security/smartcardio/PlatformPCSC.java.htm Now i am wondering if maybe $LIBISA is not set correctly? I can't find the place in the Sourcecode where it is set. Any ideas? I've blogged about the upgrade here: http://www.getsnappy.com/tech-blog/freebsd-tips-tricks/upgrading-freebsd-port-javaopenjdk6-from-b16-to-b17/ You can download this port and test it before it is committed from: http://www.getsnappy.com/downloads/openjdk6-b17.tar.gz To install the port: cd /usr/ports/java tar -xjf /openjdk6-b17.tar.gz cd openjdk6-b17 make I haven't done any testing yet and before I commit I would like to address the existing issue with poor font quality. Please leave good or bad comments about your experience with the preliminary build on this mailing list or my blog, so we can speed the process of committing a more stable and up-to-date version of Java for FreeBSD. While I'm at it, is Unicode supported in this port? I'm getting somewhat strange results running Vuze (former Azureus) on this platform sometimes. If I grab a torrent containing "unicode" named files Vuze falsely claims that the file occurs more than once (Error: File occurs more than once in download). What makes me suspect that unicode is at fault is that filenames shows up as ???????.extension using the WebUI (which uses UTF-8 for encoding). This issue does not happen all the time though and some torrents works fine, they're still displayed as ????? but show up with the correct name over Samba on a Win32 (XP) machine. Try disabling IPv6. You can use a commandline option for java or recompile jdk16. It solved my problem of a crashing Eclipse. But I don't know if you are having the same problems. Do you use any plugins in Eclipse? Ronald. Hi, Compiles and runs ok here on 8.0-RC2/amd64. I have one issue, which I also had with openjdk6-b16. The local of non-english languages are not correct. They are correct in the jdk16 port. public static void main(String[] args) { for (Locale l : new Locale[] { new Locale("nl"), new Locale("nl", "NL"), new Locale("fr") }) { System.out.println("displayname: " + l.getDisplayName()); DecimalFormat nf = (DecimalFormat)NumberFormat.getNumberInstance(l); final DecimalFormatSymbols decimalFormatSymbols = nf.getDecimalFormatSymbols(); System.out.println("decimal: " + decimalFormatSymbols.getDecimalSeparator()); System.out.println("grouping: " + decimalFormatSymbols.getGroupingSeparator()); SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("G", l); System.out.println("dateformat: " + sdf.format(new Date())); } } Openjdk6 gives: displayname: Dutch decimal: . grouping: , dateformat: AD displayname: Dutch (Netherlands) decimal: . grouping: , dateformat: AD displayname: French decimal: . grouping: , dateformat: AD jdk16 gives: displayname: Dutch decimal: , grouping: . dateformat: AD displayname: Dutch (Netherlands) decimal: , grouping: . dateformat: AD displayname: French decimal: , grouping: dateformat: ap. J.-C. The jdk16 stuff is better. I looked in the code, but can't really find where this info is. Thanks for the hard work on porting this. Nice read in your blog also. Ronald. I use subclipse-1.6.2, this is the only thing that I think will use TCP/IP (does subclipse run the command line client or do the connection itself?). The only other things that will use TCP/IP are the unit tests, but eclipse will often crash before I have run any. The error is intermittent it can happen 10 times in 5 minutes or once a day. It seems to be more stable if I turn off "Build automatically" (which will presumably reduces the amount of concurrency), it also seems to crash most often when opening or closing projects. However, it is so intermittent that my observations could well be luck related. I have compiled my jdk with debug symbols and looking at the core dump with gdb gives the following stack trace for the thread that bombs: (gdb) ba #0 0x00000008007acd2c in thr_kill () from /lib/libc.so.7 #1 0x000000080083c2bb in abort () from /lib/libc.so.7 #2 0x0000000800fe2d69 in os::abort () from /usr/local/diablo-jdk1.6.0/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so #3 0x00000008011175cf in VMError::report_and_die () from /usr/local/diablo-jdk1.6.0/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so #4 0x0000000800fe618b in JVM_handle_bsd_signal () from /usr/local/diablo-jdk1.6.0/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so #5 #6 0x0000000800d0c724 in PhaseChaitin::gather_lrg_masks () from /usr/local/diablo-jdk1.6.0/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so #7 0x0000000800d0e392 in PhaseChaitin::Register_Allocate () from /usr/local/diablo-jdk1.6.0/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so #8 0x0000000800d5e303 in Compile::Code_Gen () from /usr/local/diablo-jdk1.6.0/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so #9 0x0000000800d5f948 in Compile::Compile () from /usr/local/diablo-jdk1.6.0/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so #10 0x0000000800cfac98 in C2Compiler::compile_method () from /usr/local/diablo-jdk1.6.0/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so #11 0x0000000800d6377d in CompileBroker::invoke_compiler_on_method () from /usr/local/diablo-jdk1.6.0/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so #12 0x0000000800d64505 in CompileBroker::compiler_thread_loop () from /usr/local/diablo-jdk1.6.0/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so #13 0x00000008010d6bad in JavaThread::thread_main_inner () from /usr/local/diablo-jdk1.6.0/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so #14 0x0000000800fe53f6 in java_start () from /usr/local/diablo-jdk1.6.0/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so #15 0x000000080064b4d1 in pthread_getprio () from /lib/libthr.so.3 #16 0x0000000000000000 in ?? Also note that tomcat6 is stable, but I do not load tomcat very much at all (only ever has one occasional HTTP client, so no request concurrency). At the moment my jdk is compiled with ipv6 support, I am going to try compiling it again with this option off. I will use a portupgrade -fR eclipse so that all upstream dependencies are also recompiled. And you can run java in interpreter mode, but will be little bit slow I guess. Ronald.
