browser opera and java applets

Hello,

Does anybody have experience with Opera and Java applets?
Opera uses JNI to connect with the JVM and than run the applet. It doesn't 
use the plugin like Mozilla. This works on Linux (at work) and Solaris (at 
the university), but not on FreeBSD (at home). Any experiences?

I'm running Java 1.4.2-p5 on FreeBSD 5.2-BETA with Opera 7.23.
