resolve appends domain section of hostname to non-existent domains

On Sat, Dec 10, 2005 at 05:56:29PM +0100 I heard the voice of
Ruben Bloemgarten, and lo! it spake thus:

The resolver always appends the "domain" or "search" params in trying
lookups.  Your problem is that mydomain2.com has a wildcard record
that is being returned for this.
