FreeBSD cw-melb-02.siz.com.au 7.2-STABLE FreeBSD 7.2-STABLE #0: Sat Jun 20 10:09:11 EST 2009 wolson at cw-melb-02.siz.com.au:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC i386
>Description:
I did a portupgrade from vpopmail 5.4.27 to 5.4.28 and the next day in my security reports I was seeing multiple core dumps of vdelivermail like so:

cw-melb-02.siz.com.au kernel log messages:
+++ /tmp/security.vxyq3ILQ      2009-12-06 03:04:44.000000000 +1100
+pid 86745 (vdelivermail), uid 1003: exited on signal 11 (core dumped)
+pid 86776 (vdelivermail), uid 1003: exited on signal 11 (core dumped)
+pid 86810 (vdelivermail), uid 1003: exited on signal 11 (core dumped)
+pid 86835 (vdelivermail), uid 1003: exited on signal 11 (core dumped)

The same thing continues on and on within the report. I did some minor troubleshooting and when investigating the qmail-send logs I would see this multiple times:

2009-12-05 18:57:49.800479500 delivery 161995: deferral: client_connect:_warning:_config_begin_failed/Segmentation_fault_(core_dumped)/

I uninstalled and reinstalled vpopmail with the following commands:

# cd /usr/ports/mail/vpopmail
# make CONFIGURE_ARGS="--enable-logging=p --enable-onchange-script"
# make install clean

and I was still getting the error. I tried it without the --enable-onchange-script and even just a plain make install clean on the vpopmail port. I did about an hours worth of troubleshooting and decided to portdowngrade to 5.4.27. Once I did this, My mail deliveries started working again and my queue was dropping.
>How-To-Repeat:
Install vpopmail accoring to this guide:

http://freebsdrocks.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=74&Itemid=25

Or if you don't have qmail installed, you would need to start at the beginning of the guide:

http://freebsdrocks.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=19&Itemid=25
>Fix:
I could not fix it. I had to downgrade to vpopmail 5.4.27 until this fix is addressed.
