i386/103186: Poweredge Raid Controller/AMI Megatrends will not format in 6.1

I am now running 6.0 again. There was no immediate message, It appeared to
me that a newfs command simply never completed, and the installation program
just waited. Hitting escape caused a message to appear, but I would have to
re-install to report that to you.
Let me see if I can run install without damaging my existing config.
