What is "RAID compatibility"? I have a feeling you're talking about
BIOS-based Intel MatrixRAID, in which case, **do not use it**. There
are bugs in the ata(4) layer which will bite you badly, including data
loss even in RAID-1 situations.

Stick with OS-based software RAID.
