What is the actual question here? Which version of FreeBSD are you using?
That's a good piece of information to start things off. For what it's worth,
the somewhat older 610 chipset yields the following in dmesg (I don't know
whether this is comparable at all):
atapci1: <nVidia nForce MCP51 UDMA133 controller> port
0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6,0x170-0x177,0x376,0xf400-0xf40f at device 13.0 on pci0
ata0: <ATA channel 0> on atapci1
ata1: <ATA channel 1> on atapci1
atapci2: <nVidia nForce MCP51 SATA300 controller> port
0x9f0-0x9f7,0xbf0-0xbf3,0x970-0x977,0xb70-0xb73,0xe000-0xe00f mem
0xfe02d000-0xfe02dfff irq 23 at device
...
I'm not sure whether that qualifies as "generic ATA" or not :)
Yours, [ade]
