Is there anyone successfully running freebsd on a dell poweredge 1950?

Yup, it's UDP NFS that stuffs it for me.

Sorry, I should have made it more clear.  I was running a stock SMP
kernel *config* which was what you asked.  I'd already patched the
if_bce.c to the version you're pointing to there, and then later
upgraded to the -STABLE with it included.  It helped with a lot of other
errors from the network card, but didn't solve this one.

At least one of the HP boxes seems to have exactly the same bce network
card in from my read of the specs.  Does that one use the same driver
but work fine?  Or have you not tried the same NFS test as we have?
