Hi,

   I try to install FreeBSD 6.0 on a i386 with a Highpoint RocketRAID 1520
(with HPT372N Chipset). I have 2 identical disks in RAID1. The system is
correctly detected at boot :

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
atapci0: <HighPoint HPT372N UDMA133 controller> port
0x9f00-0x9f07,0x9e00-0x9e03,0x9d00-0x9d07,0x9c00-0x9c03,0x9a00-0x9aff irq 18
at device 3.0 on pci2
ata2: <aATA channel 0> on atapci0
ata3: <aATA channel 1> on atapci0
...
ad4: 78533MB <HDS728080PLA380 PF20A68A> at ata2-master UDMA133
ad6: 78533MB <HDS728080PLA380 PF20A68A> at ata3-master UDMA133
ar0: 78533MB <HighPoint v2 RocketRAID RAID1> status: READY
ar0: disk0 READY (master) using ad4 at ata2-master
ar0: disk1 READY (mirror) using ad6 at ata3-master
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the install process I can create ar0s1a, but when it starts to write on
the disk (to create fs table) I get the following error sequence :

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
ad6: FAILURE - WRITE_DMA status=51<READY,DSC,ERROR>
error=5<ABORTED,ILLEGAL_LENGHT> LBA=63
ar0: WARNING - mirror protection lost. RAID1 array in DEGRADED mode
ad4: FAILURE - WRITE_DMA status=51<READY,DSC,ERROR>
error=5<ABORTED,ILLEGAL_LENGHT> LBA=9
ada4: write metadata failed
ad4: FAILURE - WRITE_DMA status=51<READY,DSC,ERROR>
error=5<ABORTED,ILLEGAL_LENGHT> LBA=63
ar0: FAILURE - RAID1 array broken
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Of course, I can't continue installation.

I have no problem with the same machine and FreeBSD 5.4 (in 5.4, the card is
recognized as a HPT372)

I'have read " ATA RAID support has been rewritten and supports a number of
new metadata formats. " in the release note of the 6.0 ...

Any idea ?

Regards

Julien Nury
