I use /usr/ports/comms/gnokii to control my Nokia 6110 via infra red & serial.
Dont know what sort of Infra red standard though.

There's 2 competitive Gnokii type groups out there,
(seems personality split).

Gnokii does other models, but not my Sony CMD-J70, last I tried a while ago.
