bktr msp34 help

I recently received a STB PCI TV card (from an old Gatway PC) from a buddy
due to lack of XP drivers and was delighted to find that the video capture
works using the bktr driver. The only problem is that I cannot get audio
output, no whitenoise, nothing.

I did a search on the multimedia list and found the following link to a
new MSP34XXXX driver ported from linux - http://people.freebsd.org/~alex,
but the dmesg output is different in that the patched/unpatched kernel is
the dmesg output line that writes:

bktr0: msp3400: error while reading chip version

Now the question.... How do I get the device to bind to the driver? I
posted messages on the multimedia list, and got some ideas, but no luck.
Is this something I need to email the bktr driver maintainer about?

I can supply additional information if needed.

Below is some system info:

Relevant PCI Conf (pciconf -lv):
--------------------------------------
bktr0 at pci0:10:0:        class=0x040000 card=0x263610b4 chip=0x036e109e
rev=0x02 hdr=0x00
    vendor   = 'Brooktree Corporation'
    device   = 'Bt878 MediaStream Controller'
    class    = multimedia
    subclass = video
none3 at pci0:10:1:        class=0x048000 card=0x263610b4 chip=0x0878109e
rev=0x02 hdr=0x00
    vendor   = 'Brooktree Corporation'
    device = 'Bt878 Video Capture (Audio Section)'
    class    = multimedia

Partial dmesg list (with bktr.stable.patch applied):
---------------------------------------
bktr0: <BrookTree 878> mem 0xdc9fe000-0xdc9fefff irq 5 at device 10.0 on

smbus0: <System Management Bus> on bti2c0
smb0: <SMBus general purpose I/O> on smbus0
bktr0: Detected a MSP3434\^A-\^A0 at 0x80
bktr0: STB TV/PCI, Philips FR1236 NTSC FM tuner, dbx stereo, msp3400c
stereo.
bktr0: msp3400: error while reading chip version
pci0: <unknown card> (vendor=0x109e, dev=0x0878) at 10.1 irq 5

Any help appreciated, thanks in advance
