Questions about devices and input.

I'm writing some cd buring software using burncd as a reference. I was
wondering if its possible to detect opening and closing of the doors.

I don't see it very often in unix. i wrote a media detection routine
but it'd be nice to detect when the door is opened and when its closed
so I'm not polling and praying.

Excuse my ignorance in advanced. I've been looking I just can't seem
to find any information on obtaining this kind of information.
