error in linking librery's

Hi all,
 
       i am getting following error when i tried to link -lpthread, when i compile my program
 
/user/libexec/elf/ld ; cannot find -lpthread,
 
i made changes to  my kernel and re compiled it, so i think may be i need to set the paths correct, which file i need to link.
