Best serial console server construction method?

I've eBay'ed both a Comtrol RocketPort PCI 8-port for $26 and a 16-port
for $28.  Non-Digi used devices can be had pretty cheaply.

Where did you find these so cheap?  They are $30-$40 at Fry's.
