In that case, have you tried setting WITH_GHOSTSCRIPT_VER=8
in /etc/make.conf?

That is, if you do not require GS9 for a specific reason, but as I said,
I never even saw it installed and everything runs fine with gs8 (for
many years).

Actually, it seems gs9 only entered ports pretty recently -
http://beta.freshports.org/print/ghostscript9

So it may be that there aren't even that many people that actually use
it (yet).
