devel/gnome-vfs: KERBEROS

I have a system where KERBEROS is disabled via src.conf, devel/gnome-vfs
port refuses to build there:

.if defined(WITHOUT_KERBEROS)
        @${ECHO_CMD} "${PKGNAME}: KERBEROS is required."
        @${FALSE}
.endif

I wonder if the port really must require KERBEROS and, if yes, why.
I tried to comment out the above check and port was built and istalled
correctly. I do not see any bad side-effects so far.
