The way it works is:
* cvsup FreeBSD ports
* cvs update ports-stable from MC
* cvs update ports from MC
* merge MC ports-stable to FreeBSD ports
* merge MC ports to FreeBSD ports
This has happens EVERY TIME you do a cvsup of ports.
