Why:
We are currently looking for a new full-time maintainer for guile. In  
the
meantime, no updates will be done as nothing needs a newer version of  
guile
yet, and ports seem to be working fine with 1.6.7.

Today, I received an announcement of skribilo (http://www.nongnu.org/ 
skribilo/) which requires GNU Guile 1.8.3 or later and Guile-Reader  
0.3 or later.  The 1.8 series of Guile was released 2006-02-12.  An  
update to Guile would be appreciated.
